DESCRIPTION: A Swan At Smiley's is a track record of a hot, dizzy summer spent in a basement apartment on Colfax Avenue, Denver, Colorado. I had just arrived home from an ugly year in New York City, living on the edge of the Bronx with a weird ballerina girl who fed me rice cakes and tamarind kool-aid all the time. I abandoned all hope all ye who enter ETC out there and flew home to Colorado, where I woozily established myself in the aforementioned apartment, a tiny space with creaking, warped floorboards, dripping ceiling pipes, and two tiny windows that looked right out on Colfax— clomping sneakers, bus stop benches, and sirens--- just at the corner of the Royal Host Motel and Smiley's Laundromat, which is, the sign says, the World's Biggest. DESCRIPTION: Energized by their recent downsizing to a three-piece and the rush they felt recording with Steve Albini, a spark was lit underneath the rears of New Grenada, and soon a bevy of new songs started pouring out. This new EP is their first without Shawn and their first as fully functional, real-life adults. Their newfound exuberance shines bright, and you can hear it bleeding from every orifice of these four new songs. From the world-weary paranoia that laces "January 1st" to the critiques on scene politics on "My Spirits Go Down Along With the Sun" and "I Will Let You Know Why", New Grenada shows that though they've aged, they are still as full of piss-and-vinegar as they've always been. And the sound? It's almost a follow-up to the bawdy rock heard on Modern Problems, but it still retains a pop and punk undercurrent that earned New Grenada comparisons to everybody from Pavement and Dinosaur Jr. to the Buzzcocks and Husker Du. See, still good 'ole New Grenada, with just a few new tricks up their sleeve. This release is a real CD, not CD-R and is available with 4 different collectable covers. Possibly conceived back in 1995, when I was using Depeche Mode lyrics (I Want You Now to be specific) to convince girls to fall in love with me. Seven years later, I decide to start a compilation series featuring lo-fi bands covering the bands I adored in high school, the only ones that ever really matter. DESCRIPTION: Gray Blaze is the second album by New York City’s The Pathways, and the first to be released on Asaurus. You may know lead singer David Yourdon from his solo project Winter Vacation; the Pathways are his main job, and what they lack in vacation time they make up for in benefits. Gray Blaze, recorded and mixed by Jed Smith (My Teenage Stride) at the band’s former practice space in Brooklyn, continues the creative pop leanings of 2005’s Boat of Confidence (Recommended If You Like Records) but is a slower, prettier, darker affair, with longer instrumental passages and more cursing. It is to be enjoyed with a half glass of whiskey, and a picture of someone you claim to love.

DESCRIPTION: Vegetable Farmer is the 4th full release by Sinkcharmer but their first for Asaurus. Documenting the transition from full band back to a party of one, the record jumps from the indie pop snark of songs like 'The Devil Got Sent to Georgia' to the full on ape rock of 'Split the Difference'. During the writing and recording of Vegetable Farmer, Paul Sinkcharmer began working the soil on his wife's family farm and selling vegetables at the local farmer's market. We'd give you fresh vegetables with this record, but sadly, their heirlooms aren't made to ship well.

You'll hear Colin singing with a sincerity that can be comforting, though it scares some and is sometimes sad, too. You'll like what this record does to your ears and to your sense of possibility. It's almost a threat, but not threatening. Honestly, it's okay to love this record.

DESCRIPTION: Castlevania rock sensations Jhohn and Airon, also known as Elliott the Letter Ostrich, emerged from a black mass ceremony. Eight newborn goats were chosen to perform this ritual. The details are vague at this time. Some say the blood from the animals were mixed with Casios and an abandoned Nintendo Entertainment System. Perhaps more gruesome details about the birth or death of Elliott the Letter Ostrich will emerge in the year 1986.
